The Long Road

Patch 08-01

The fight finally looks like a place instead of a form.

  • The battle screen was rebuilt. The labels, panels, toolbar and boxed-in log are gone — it's one forest now, with type floating over it. A torch burns at the field's edge and follows the fight: it dims with your party's health, flares at victory, and gutters to a lone ember on defeat.
  • Hits throw sparks, poison sinks, heals lift. Little pixel bursts at every impact. VICTORY stamps in; DEFEAT only fades — a bad ending doesn't need a drumroll.
  • The log stopped hiding your gear. DOUBLE STRIKE, ARMOR PIERCE, FINISHER, THORNS, LIFE STEAL — the log now tags the lines your equipment caused. Last Stand gets its own line too: "— holds on at 1 HP" used to look like a bug.
  • Exhaustion shows up when it happens. Marching home on empty fills the red bar right there on the road, not at the next fight. Same cost, honest timing.
  • The fork stopped quoting prices. You learn what a road costs the way you learn a road — by walking it.
  • The storm reads its own weather. A countered hazard now narrates the counter working ("the wind tries the tents — the guy-lines hold"), the sky visibly improves when fear eases, and tapping your supplies tells you what each one is for.
  • Potions arrive at the first shop now — three of them, so you learn what they do before a boss is on the line. The "spend it all then walk in wounded" lesson at rounds 23 and 36 stays. That one's on you.
